Volunteering at the Blackmores Australian Pro – Adaptive Surfing Championships in Byron Bay, Lawson Street beachfront, from 17-22 March 2024.
Volunteers, or “Volley’s,” will have the opportunity to choose an area that aligns with their skills and interests. We have identified several priority areas where your support will be invaluable:
-
In-Water Support: Assist athletes in the water by swimming or wading, helping them get back onto their boards if they wipe out during a heat. (Bronze medallion minimum preferred; required for some divisions).
-
On the Beach: Help athletes navigate the beach, transfer in and out of beach wheelchairs, and assist with board transitions on the shore break.
-
Event Site: Contribute to set-up, pack-down, manage food stalls, assist with athlete needs, and handle general logistics.
Event Schedule:
-
Thursday, 14th March: Social Golf afternoon at BB Golf Club.
-
Saturday 16-17 March: Event site set-up at Lawson Street beachfront.
-
Opening Ceremony (17th March): 3pm, featuring Athlete and street control marshalling checkpoints, Parade of Nations street march, pouring of World sands, smoking ceremony, welcome to country, and the official opening ceremony with music provided by Soul’d, a twelve-piece band.
-
Monday, 18th March: Site set-up on the beach for all competition days (approx. 7 am start daily).
-
Friday, 22nd March: Competition closes, start packing down, official closing presentation, nibblies/drinks, and a band at Byron Bay Services Club from 6 pm.
